USAA web site came up with 1989 944 base Turbo, 60K, excellent condition. $11,800 retail, I think $8300 trade.

Is the 1989 Turbo "S" different than a 1989 "base model" Turbo?

It's only a guide line...

Vehicle condition is key...and what some one is willing to pay.

One of the issues I have with the guides is where they collect the info.
Around here most of the time no one declares the real selling price of a car to avoid taxes.
Your right about condition, there are way more bad cars than nice ones.

KBB estimated value of a mint 951 is way off! In European Car they said you would most likely pay two and a half times more than what KBB quotes!!! Hardly a guideline. These cars are steadily increasing in value, are they not!

Agreed, also I have bought many cars and shopping for used cars reveals that one mans "excellent condition" is anothers "piece of crap"

Hey, congratulations, Lance! That's a great looking car and I had it on good authority from several people that it's past owners were very good to it. It must be nice to be back in the saddle again.

We definitely have to go for a drive soon to celebrate (and you have to take me for a ride, since it was probably me who told you about that car first .

Price guides are based upon reported data. Auctions, dealer transactions, application for title, etc.

Yes private sales usually "cheat" on the claimed prices. This will drive down book values. When it's time for an insurance claim, this definitely hurts us, as one recent member found out concerning his exceptional S2. And good luck when you want to trade in.

I think the car is worth exactly $5. less than you paid for it. now dont you feel like you got ripped off?

screw the price, just enjoy it.

Hey Odie, I got about twice book for my S2 from the insurance company. Which is more than anyone was going to pay me, or, enough to buy a clean low mileage 951S. but not enough to do the first repair.

Damn. That's a lot better than I thought you did. From your posts on the insurance battle I got the impression that they where trying to low ball you on the book value. I had thought you had lost ground, considering the condition of your car and all the upkeep you lavished on it, which most just blow off.

it cost me a bit over 11000 to drive the car three years or 18000 miles. but the check after deductible (200) with tax was 15000 USD. i had to rip the adjuster a new one but it all worked out.
