LT-4 944 Predator
OK... I've had my conversion on the street now for 1 year. Just finished upgrading the engine to LT-4 specs with the Summit Racing kit (425 hp from GM). This is a 100% professional installation. If I could somehow figure out how to post pics, I could send a few hundred. My car is on the Renegade website. Check out 'Scott in Brentwood' under customers' cars and 'Hot Rod Power Tour' under fun stuff. Also at p-caronline, 'Scott in Tennessee'. I got a bunch of s**t from the purists at first. I joined the local PCA chapter and attended one meeting. Was never invited back and I can (sometimes) understand their position, but one ride in my car and I think they would have to reconsider. Anyway, I'll try to answer a few questions in a short amount of space. Costs... budget $10k for parts (minimum) if you want it done right. Labor... budget 120 hours x 2 mechanics (first time learning curve). Use as many Renegade patrs as you can afford. They've already done the R & D! Don't even think about using the stock GM wiring harness. Buy a custom one from Renegade, Painless or ...??. Make sure your car is is damn good shape, mechanically and electrically, before you start. Gremlins can drive you crazy, then find out whatever is not working, never worked! The shop has done 10 conversions now (just finished a '95 968 conversion). We can ,either, answer most questions, or, at least, point you in the right direction. Think things out, measure twice (maybe three times) before acting on anything thats important ('bout everything). PM me if you get stuck, need a question answered, or just want to BS. There will be times you want to put a match to it...but end result is PRICELESS!! Good luck.

I have seen and taken a ride in Scott's car. It is truly a awesome machine. The conversion is so well done it appears factory. Scott has taken no short cuts on this car. The paint is as good or better than some 100k cars I have seen. Put this car in the calender.

Thanx Todd... I'll slip ya that $50 tomorrow! All our cars have all the options that originally came with the converted 944, except power brakes, and I've already covered that. My car has cold ac, ps, pw....every creature comfort. I've heard thar Renegade may be working on a belt driven vaccumn pump for the power brakes, but keep forgening to ask them. Damn...can't figure why I can't post a pic when everyone esle can???

Untier:
Nice work -- do those engines now have coil-on-plug or direct ignition? I don't see the SBC distributor on the back of your engine as I did for my friend's '85 Z-51. Must be quite a beast...

most of the time its in the garage,
ive taken it to crystal cove, you been there yet? met dan gurney there with his alligators, and ivan stewart, (ironman).
reese callaway admired it at the donut dareilicks, sp?, been there?
distributor is driven off the front cover, lt1 and lt4s. great fun if you get a water leak. ive heard the steam takes the ignition out, but i havent experienced it yet.
im only running about 320 hp, stock exhaust manifolds to pass smog otherwise itd certainly be more.
i took it on the streets of willow, what a blast!
interested? $90. for the day . 5 sessions, 15-20 min ea. looks like another day in feb so far, with this group. open to anyone!

ive recently removed the power steering completey, the road feel is sooooo much better. just requires a little more effort. i changed from a momo steering wheel to a sparco, 1 inch bigger and it helps make it easier too.

The LT series of GM engines ( 1 and 4 ) have the opti-spark distributors, gear driven off the cam sprocket. They also have a gear driven water pump. A thrown belt will not rersult in overheating. We're using the 951 trannys and have yet to gernade one, but.....?? May consider a 968 6-speed in the future. If someone does develop a kit for the 'vette 6-speed, I'd be interested!
