Default 88 944NA compression

Does 1988 944NA has a different compression than a 87?
Is the gear ratio different too on the fifth gear
Looking to buy one 88 with 190k miles
Has Good maintenance record from PO
What should I look out for high mileage car?
PO change the timing belt
Have not own a944
Thanks

compression:
1988 10.2:1
1987 9.5:1

944s are very solid cars - high mileage really doesn't matter.
as long as the belts and water pump have been done recently, and if the engine has good compression/leak down (google leak down test) and drives well...get it.

expect at some point you may need to replace engine mounts and oil pan gasket (and rod bearings while doing oil pan gasket). but not critical items.

V2Rocket is correct on both topics.

BUT at 190K miles you must do a proper PPI --pre purchase inspection at a Porsche garage. Independent or dealer.

Applies to all Porsche:

Just an example...

1987 could be 10.6:1 depending on op location.

PO told me that he change the timing belt( ideals good on cold start and even smoother after a couple of minutes)
Oil separator was change
Fuel injector changed with new ones not clean
Intake boot new and all the required vacuum hose done when he changed out the boot
Not sure about the seals when he change the oil separator( I think he did not sure cos I'm have not own a 944)
Ac is r12 blowing cold and I can see the bubbles on the window
Ac Line in the dash was done
Front two seats upholstery done with new foam pads
Shocks done all 4
He will put back the steering belt on and will change out the lower radiator hose ( should I ask him to change the temperature sensor since he is in there?)
Pretty new hankook tire and I think he mention club sport wheels
He is a air cooled mechanic from a reputable Indy shop in town that why he has all those things change and he has acquired a 968
This is his dd and he has no need for 2

Yes the 1988 has a liwer ratio 5th gear. It is very nice for passing on the highway.

I would say my 1988 runs at about 3000 rpm at 62 mph with this gearing.
