Default Speed/reference sensor repair

I just my 944 S2 cabriolet towed to my mechanic because it appears I need to have the speed and reference sensor replaced. (turns over, won't start, no tach bounce) I replaced the DME relay already so that's not it.

I was wondering if anyone can give me a ballpark figure how much this repair will cost, assuming it's just the speed and reference sensor. Any help is greatly appreciated. David

simply swapping the sensors might take an hour.
it's a pain in the *** to do them do to tight space but they aren't hidden or anything.

Default beyond my talent level

I was considering trying to do it myself but I saw on another site that it was rated 4 wrenches out of 5 for difficulty so I gave in and let my mechanic handle this one.

Shouldn't be that much for the labor. Especially for someone who has done it before.
I kept hearing stories about how difficult it was to get to them but I was able to swap them out in about an hour without too much trouble with the right socket extensions.
Good luck.

The S2 has only one bell housing mounted sensor, the speed sensor. The hall sensor for the ignition is located in the distributor housing and is an easy swap. if your S2 is an 89 or 90 don't forget about the ignition module mounted on the driver's side fender near the headlight.

Seriously? It takes like 5 mins tops unless it's seized in place.

On a 951 it's a lot more annoying because of the extra stuff.

Default siezed

I read a few threads about this, and in every one they were seized. My other problem is that most of my tools have been in storage since my divorce. Hopefully that's all my problem is and It'll only take my mechanic a few minutes
