Default Transmission Slop

Hey guys, quick question, maybe a stupid one. I was under the car the other day and twisted my cv axle. I noticed that I could turn one axle about 1/10 of a full turn before the other axle starts spinning. Is this typical? I've always had a bit of "play" in my drivetrain, as in, when I hit the gas there is a miniscule hesitation, then a clunk and the power kicks in, same on deccel. Very similar to the symptoms of a broken rubber clutch. I replaced mine recently and it improved but didn't go away. So, could there be 1/10 a rotation of play in my diff alone? Is this just how the transmissions are? It drives quietly and smoothly otherwise. 1984 non-LSD NA trans

That's pretty normal from my experience. I'd guess your delay is due more to a sloppy transaxle mount than anything else.

Edit: just re-read and noticed the mention of a "clunk." Maybe not the trans mount(s) in that case, but still worth checking.

Is the transmission in gear when you are rotating the wheel?

Dimi, I think it was. Though it wouldn't make a difference if the slop was in the differential, right? Slomo, my mounts are old; I was actually buying window urethane to firm them up when I saw your post. I saw some old posts on here that said you can tape them up and inject the silicone between the rubber and metal for a firmer mount. I don't have much to lose so we'll see how it goes.
