Default Boost problems

I was having a no boost problem in 1st and 2nd, very little in 3rd, and then 11 psi in 4th, didn;t try 5th. So I vacuum tested my BOV, decided to replace it, and hoped it would solve my problem. Just installed it 20 mins ago, went for a spirited run, and I'm still not getting boost in first, getting maybe 3 psi tops in 3rd, and then normal in the high gears. Sh*t! The new BOV helped a little, but not much. What should I do next? I was thinking a vaccuum leak might be the culprit. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Mike

Bone stock. Sam did you mean sent or went? If you ment sent, thanks for that BOV. If yours did take a crap though, don't give me that one you were giving away! If I am getting it, that'll make 2 BOV replacements this month once I put it on the '88!

Can it be the wastegate? Maybee it's leaking pressure and giving you those boost problems.

I'd check the vacuum lines too. Also, the chips may cause this too.

the one i sent was perfect (993 style), I changed up to a billet unit. The only reason I sent it was cause I thought you needed it, I wouldnt spend my money to send you a broken one.

i agree with sam prob wastegate possbly cv is hanging up althogh I would pull your J boot and make sure the compreessor turbine is ok, this is gonna sound stupid but i had a customer once with the same prob and the turbine was all chewed up from maybe a bolt or something, it only built boost because it was in the higher gears longer .
Good Luck let us know.

WG? Can you tell if you are running rich?

How would I detect if I am runnign rich other than a A/F guage? I don't have one. What does clamping the line to the WG do? I've read that you have to be careful driving like that.

Thanks
Mike

yea well you dont want to hold it wide open for a minute. just clamp it, drive out of boost, get it in 2nd or 3rd then roll on boost...know the road you are doing this on, pref. straight wide and no cars...watch ur boost gauge if it hits 17-20 let off and you know your prob. if it does the same thing as eariler you ruled out the wastegate.

So I put a pair of vise grips or something on the line to the WG that is on the turbo to intercooler pipe, or do I do it somewhere else? If I rule out the WG, what else could cause this problem?

TIA

If the WG is bad, would it need to be replaced or can it be shimmed?
