It fell off from partial disintegration. I'm not finding the strainer listed by its self. I looks like it was originally glued to the pump.

That may be the case.

Thought this part [928.201.081.04] and gasket [928.201.187.02] on the 944 were carried over from the 924.

Well did some work on the Cheapskate 924 today. Put a new fuel pump in and flushed the old gas in the feed and return line out.

With the fuel pump relay jumped I got the car running... it runs when i turn the ignition over and when it starts to fire off I have to turn the relay jumper on "I hooked a fuse and on off switch to it" and work the throttle a little. After about a minute I can keep it running with the throttle cracked a little bit. doing this the car doesn't seem to be revved up but it got dark and couldn't see the tach or if it even works.

If i let off the slightly cracked throttle it dies.

Any suggestions on what to adjust or try to adjust? throttle position? CO adjusting screw?
and can someone post a vacuum diagram for a 81 924.

but the tally as of right now is a pinch over $400 to get the car to fire off and run. Not sure if it drives, shifts, or stops. but the goal was to make it run for under $500 and pretty happy that we atleast have a running engine "somewhat".

Thanks guy,
James

James, as previously mentioned, fueling in your car is controlled by CIS. CIS works well when dialed in. Two of the most important [and expensive] components for proper operation are the fuel distributor and the warm up regulator, which regulates both cold and hot fuel pressures. The path leading to a happy, well-running, CIS-injected motor begins with a properly calibrated WUR.

If you plan to tune this 924 yourself, it would be helpful to have a copy of the Bosch CIS manual and a set of CIS gauges on hand.

That said, if this is only a cold start issue, and the car idles properly after a warm start, then the cold start valve could be faulty.

If this is an issue all the time, then potential contributors could be a faulty idle microswitch or a faulty auxiliary air regulator ['81 924 implements an AAR instead of an idle control valve].

It would undoubtedly guide your path if you knew whether the engine was running lean or rich upon cold start.

Nice work trying to save this one. Whats the end goal for this project? Get it running and sell or keep and enjoy?

Well my buddy wants to keep it for awhile and try to fix it up some.

While it is up on the jack stands we ran it and it shifts through the gears nicely.

I don't think we will try to restore to former glory, but I think we want to make it look half way nice and have a fun drive toy. I think we like the fact the parts are not as expensive as my 928 and do not mind chipping in money here and there. Not to lie I have never been a big fan of the 924 but this thing is getting a little addictive to mess with.

Nice, fun project. I'm enjoying watching your tally creep towards $500, rooting for you.

well we got it running for right at $400.00 and spent $15 on flush, and distilled water and about $25 on fuel. I had a couple of gallons of coolant in the garages. So we did manage to get it running and driving for less than $500. So we are pretty happy about that. My buddy wants to keep the car, and I'm a little indifferent.

I told him before we spend any more money on it he need to do a title 42 "Oklahoma's way of being able to get a title on a car that doesn't have one", get it tagged, and insured.

But I will say this it sure has been fun bringing a dead car in a field back to life. And working on this 924 sure is a lot simpler than my 928.

And thanks for all that have followed my progress.
James
