Ok guys Here is my new project. Shows 135k miles. But it's had a had life for sure. I'll try to keep this thread updated with pictures and findings as I tear her apart.

New struts for the front hood, or rear hatch?

Not as critical for the front, but off brand or too strong of a lifting rear hatch strut are known to be hard on the rear hatch glass seal at the top of the glass, causing it to separate the aluminum frame from the glass. Thus causing rattles, leaks of air, leaks of water which will stain and rot your rear hatch carpeting, and eventually cause the whole hatch to mis-align with the locking points in the rear.

Google here and on Clark's Garage, 944 Online, and other forums for much documentation and discussion on this very matter. If your rear hatch is good now, don't invite trouble by saving a few dollars and tearing your frame from your glass.

uhhh, what happened to the hood surface ?

fuel injector fire or the traditional rotten fuel line fire ? How bad did things get under there ?

I'm needing a bunch of small interior parts also.

Yes the engine had a fire. Not sure what was leaking fuel. Harness needs some serious work or just replacement.

Have not decided on the engine yet, probably going to pull it and tear it down. I'll add more pictures of the engine soon.

 

Stabilus is the good stuff for hood struts as they're OE. With that said, if the ones on the car are still working you may want to hold those for spares.

Yes lots of scrubbing! Going to pull the engine shortly. Hopping to buy another parts car as well.
