Hey you could be like me. I just finished putting my transmission back in my car. The transmission was stuck in 3rd gear. One of the detents popped out ( luckily i found it in the tran oil by the differential). Spent most of the past month pulling it apart and putting it back together. Just got it in. Move the shifter around. Works great. Get ready for the test drive and .....
Battery was dead...
My dad has the battery charger...
A friend of mine has my jumper cables...
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH Crap... < Bangs head on keyboard >
I just want to drive my car is that too much to ask ?

I appreciate the moral support! ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
A 1983 944 is just what I have as a daily driver, and although it's no turbo cab, they definitely are great cars as well!
Long story! Spanish national working for a U.S. pari-mutuel company (legal gaming) based in the Caribbean. I spend vacations in Spain and travel occasionally to the continental U.S.
Yeah, yeah, yeah... I'm sure you're happier with the Miata turbo, anyway ![Stick Out Tongue](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
You said to expect the package by Friday, but I'll give the USPS a call today and check. Thanks again for the deal!

i feel your pain guys!
oh wait no i don't... mine's a daily driver. i miss it though cause i can't drive it all the time. so it sits, right outside the dorm, under a cover. begging to sing to me. ahhh the sound of 8 valves...
i dont know what all you all are whining about driving turbos... i'd 10x rather drive my 944 than jasons(roommate's) 951... just personal preference i guess. i dont miss his turbo either, he drives way less than i do. it is getting colder... time for more driving![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Brad, I decided to try and rebuild the transmission instead of getting a used one or rebuild. The reason is simple. All 3 of my cars have decided to break within 3 weeks of each other. The family car ( 99 Expedition with 80k miles ) decided to eat oil and sieze. The 944 locked up in 3rd gear. Now my 94 Rodeo decided to start dropping about 1/4 quart of oil each time I stop. I don't have a spare 4 - 6 k to fix them all ( my rough guess, probably more since the expedition is a 5.4 ltr V8).
The transmission was actually not that bad. My dad bought a shop press for about $160 ( and he has a barn to work on the cars ). I bought about $150 in tools and parts. The hardest part was putting the 2 shafts back into the case. There is very LITTLE wiggle room to get them back in. Also, there is a bolt on each shaft at the very back that needs to be torgued to 51 ft/ls. I don't know if i reached that or not, but i had to be close. You have to put the shaft in a vice in order to torqued it down that much. If I tightened the vice any more than I did, then I would have scored the shaft. Anyways, I did not change any of the bearings, those seemed in good order. The gears were in good shape as well. I just needed one detente ( come in a pack of 3 ), a synchro gear, gear oil ( swepco ), tran drain plug tool, gear puller, gear splitter, and the newly aquired shop press
Ok, so I am a little happy I was able to rebuild it ( first transmission rebuild attempt ). I just want to find out if I was successfull or not. Guess it will have to wait until tonight when i buy a new set of jumper cables...
PS Sorry to hijack the thread Luis. I am just a little excited to see if my rebuild was a success or not.
