Removing window tint
#2
There isnt one...oh yeah, let a tint shop remove it! I have done it a few times and it was a real bitch. If it has a rear window defrost you really ought to let someone remove it for you. I believe it cost 60 dollars on the last Camaro I did.

What would get a middle-aged guy (the seller was an older dude, right)into actually paying to have his Camaro's windows tinted!? The Camaro (in red) kinda says it all already!

Marc,
you drove it on a clear night. it was really scary monday night in the rain. i want to remove the tint on the side windows and put a much lighter tint on.
i can live with the nearly blacked out rear window.
Andy,
I think the guy i bought the car from was probably in his mid thirties and more concerned with how it looked than how it drove. the tint is more than illegal, like marc said its scary.

Sponge the window with ammonia (get it good and wet) and then tape a black garbage bag on the window and park it out in the sun for a few hours. I've also heard of using a heat gun to get the tint/glass hot to substitute for the sun which is never a problem here. Anyway, the ammonia destroys the glue and allows your to scrape/peel the tint off much easier. I've seen it done at a tint shop so I know it works. I guess this is why they say don't clean your tint with Windex.

I love tint love it love it love it. I use 3M smoke black limo on the rear of my 540 and max legal on all the sides. If you have no tint in Texas int. temps can be above 170 deg. Almost necessity. BTW - the smoke black makes it appear green grey at night, and it actually makes a little easier to see IMHO.

Three Wheelin'
I watched my tinter remove a piece from my car....the piece bubbled up and had been on for no more than two weeks, so it prolly wasnt totally set. But anyways all he did was get out his heat gun, heat the corner a little and then used a razor blade to lift the corner up a little, just to get two fingers on it. Then simply pulled it off as one piece nice and gentle...looked simple as can be....goodluck!

Jeremy is right, wet the glass with full strength glass cleaners and cover it with plastic film and leave it for 1/2 hr or so in the sun , the hotter the better, then lift the plastic sheet and re-spray with more cleaner and cover it again. The trick is that the film is water permeable and the adhesive is water soluable. If you get it right it fulls right off. BTW don't use razor blades, you'll scratch the glass.

Make sure you don't damage the interior panels with the ammonia overspray.
Also, if you use a razor blade to help with removal, be careful not to scratch the inside of the glass.
