Default 944 S2 front struts parts number confusion -- help!

I'm changing the worn original dampers in my car for Koni yellow Sport shocks. As we all know, the front Konis are inserts and require cutting open the stock housings to fit. In preparation for this, I bought a used set of strut housings from a 944 Turbo as I was told Turbo shocks are the same as S2 shocks. After modifying the housings and stuffing the inserts in, I discovered the springs and perches are totally different between the two. Argh!

Question: What 944s share the Sachs strut housings with the S2? The part number I have on my original struts are 944.343.031.19. The incorrect part I bought was 951.343.031.01/032.01. The seller says he has front struts that are coming off a 968 cab but the part number still isn't the same as my original ones. Are all 968 struts the same as 944 S2?

And this is all non-M030, it should be noted.

Thanks for any help.

Correct...not the same form/fit. Struts between 944/2 and 944 turbo are interchangeable for form/fit, just as struts between 944S2 and 968 are interchangeable for form/fit.

Short answer...yes. If not mistaken, stiffer springs were fitted to the 968, but strut housings [lower perches, spring diameters] are interchangeable for form/fit between the two.

Bottom line: if you intend to reuse the OE springs from your S2, you need to source another set of S2 struts or a set of 968 struts.

I put 951 struts on my last 968 because there's a nice selection of aftermarket springs (lower, stiffer). Stock 951 springs are about 125 lb/in, stock S2 are about 135 lb/in, and stock 968 are about 160 lb/in. I got some 250 lb/in springs with about 1.25" lower ride height and loved the feel. Just my 2 cents!
