We are working on creating a kit to do that (though not with smoked lenses). GT racing has one but if you read the whole thread you will see why we are working on alternatives.

That's a quick photoshop rendition of what I want my car to eventually look like. It started life as a photo of Sam Grant's 951, before I vented the nose and added smoked headlight covers....

I dont think the smoke lenses would be very condusive to light output though.

Man.... i am so tempted to buy that conversion kit, first i though it was ricy but after some research i realized that i either have to go with Ice-Sharks kit or get the GT-racing one. I think it saves you a little over 30 pounds with all the part removed/substituted. Just a suggestion, on the Golf 4 many people are going with European HID conversion, if you know the looks of currently produced GTI/Jetta you'll see that headlights are clear with a plastic cover over them. EUropean units have glass lights with a protective plastic shield that goes over them, ultra-thin but very strong. I guess that visability would be much better if someone could come up with a kit like that. I have no idea what kind of plastic that is. Still, i 'd be all over a well executed fixed headlights kit
Vlad.

Matt, these are year 2002 Hella parts numbers for the SAE 90mm versions. I think Hella was going through a numbering system change around that time so you will have to keep that in mind. But people can cross reference the numbers if these ones did in fact end up changing.

Halogen:

Dipped beam #68137
Main beam #68136

HID:

Dipped beam #68139
Main beam #68138

Yes, for HID you need all that ballast, bulbs, etc., but that comes with the lens as a package and you just wire up. I'm looking at a Hella cataloge, not my files and it looks like Hella US said they wanted $488.27 per lens for the E-Code version! I've got the price written in the margin with a 4 letter word that starts with "F" next to it. LOL! That is what put me on to the European source search. I also found out you really don't want to deal through Hella USA because they aren't really a part of Hella but are sort of a franchise holder. So pricing is really high if they are anywhere in the distribution chain. That is why you have to go through Europe on HID.

As far as wiring upgrades, do you mean for halogen? Then the answer is yes, I'm ordering parts for another run this week. Should be shipping prior to Thanksgiving if everything shows up. And sure we can talk about some biz arrangement that would make sense for both of us. Drop me a line at wraydan@msn.com and we can go from there.

I forgot where I saw it, I think it was a Euro body part web page, but they had a front nose panel (one peice) with two molded light holes, like the late model integra. I'd like to see that installed.

I believe that piece is from Gemballa and I betcha it aint cheap! One of the swedes might have posted a like to a place that sells that stuff, I seem to remember seeing it. I dont want a glass nosepanel as all the ones I have seen have been of poor fit and finish.

Vlad, a conversion to fixed is going to be pretty expensive and lesser lighting than a flip up with something like my upgrage.

The fixed setup is a balancing act between cosmetics, weight savings, less moving parts vs. lighting performance. This is without the cost issue added in. So you make your choices and tip the scale one way or the other. The real problems with fixed is available space to do the lighting right and cost and effort.

If you don't drive at night and want to go fixed then the issue gets much more simple: Where do I get parts that actually fit and finish well at a reasonable cost and work effort, who cares about lighting.

Ice- I will email you when I get home. I am not much of an artists or a photoshop guy but I bet we can figure this out anyway. It looks like there is a market here. It would be nice to be under the GT Racing price but if you got a better product at a similar price I bet we would have plenty of takers. I will be the guinea pig. I am determined to get this working and looking good.

Here's the piece I was talki8ng about. If you could rob some projection bulbs from late model Euro, like a bimmer or Aud, it might work well. Is it too ricey (It does have a little Acura look, ugh).

Matt, no, it should be a Xenon (HID) low beam 90mm, not 9". 90mm would be about 3 1/2". Do you have a typo that you are looking at?
