Better choice is 90 degree bend large needle nose pliers, which came in a set of about six assorted pliers from Costco, for $18.
Wrap the needle nose tips with electrical or duct tape if you want to avoid scratching the pulley, and insert the pliers tips into the balance shaft pulley holes. This pulley only needs to be counter-held while working its nut, at low torque, so there is very little stress on the tool or pulley. With the needle nose tips in the little holes on the pulley, there is adequate space to torque the axle nut with a socket wrench.

Love my BS wrench...
Paid for itself on the first belt job I did for someone else...lol
It also doubles as a hammer
Fun fact...the BS wrench is the same tool used to de-tension the timing belt tensioner on 1987+ 944 models.

This is a tool I made for removing the collar nut on the power steering rack to disassemble it. Got tired of the hammer and punch. This works sooooo much better!
If it does the job right, it's the right tool for the job!

Maybe I'm just a tool ***** but I always try to pick up and use the factory tools every chance I get. I just used the 9226/9248 tools for installing the cams on my S2 and they worked so much quicker and easier than the homemade tools I had used previously.
