Default Electric Seats wont work

So I had to take my seat out to adjust my clutch.

In doing so I had the seat as high both motors in the full up and extended positions. I finish installing the seat with all the electrical connections.

Now I go to adjust the seat and it wont move with either control. I can hear each motor trying to work but only in the direction they are fully extended. I can see the cable flex as I hear the motor trying to work as well. However, if I try to adjust the seats to go the other way nothing happens - no motor noise or movement with the cable.

Try spraying the switch/control (the round thing on the side of the seat) with DeOxit? If the contacts are working in one direction but not the other I'd try cleaning the contacts before taking he seat apart. It's worked for me on my '85 928 seats.

Where to you point the nozzle at? I'm not sure how you would be able to spray the insides of the switch.

There's a tube that comes with the can (like WD40), I start at the top of the switch and work my way around 45 degrees on each side. I don't know if that's correct, it's just what I've done to bring the switches back to life. No guarantees I'm afraid, but I've had good luck.

If that doesn't work, I've had to pull the switch and replace it.

I had same problem. Removed switch cover and sprayed contact cleaner, as previously suggested. Worked for a while and had to repeat process. Second time seems to be lasting longer.

Opening a switch is like what happens when you wind a Jack-in-the-Box.

Well I tried the spray and it did work for about five seconds and then quit. At least I know the motor works. It also allowed me to raise the back of the seat so I can access the bolts. I went ahead and ordered two new switches to put this issue to bed.

Yep. Forgot to mention that. Parts sort of go everywhere so be careful. I didn't have to open mine the first time, I just sprayed it into the space between the rocker and the switch body and let it soak in.

Taking the switch apart is more exciting.

Well, if it worked at all you can likely clean up the switch. You'd need to take it out to replace it anyway, may as well try soaking it in contact cleaner? The labor will be the same.

Since a replacement switch is ordered, take the old switch out and take it apart.

Clean it, reassemble it, and try this old switch.

If it still does not work you have lost nothing but time and at the same time gained knowledge.
