Unhappy Yep 944s are slow - Dusted by Winnebago

Guys on the way back from lunch it happened.

I was at a traffic light. Light goes green. I had the sunroof tilted-up and heard a strange whine. Not me so I take my normal leasurely acceleration from the light. As I look to my left I see a huge Older A class Winnebago (30ft +) leaving me like I am standing still. I could attempt to catch-up, but I think that he already has "the win" and I all can do is make a bad situation worse.

Ahh well. I guess this really does mean 8v 944 NA's are slow...

I was driving my old NA years ago and as the light turned I heard a wooosh! as I looked at the road I saw a turtle had blown me away off the line.

I'll bet grandpa had a NOZ system and some type of super trick cold air intake with a free flow air filter. Moddin' the Winne's are the next frontier of stealth.

I got beat by a diesel Type II VW bus the other day - that was going up an incline as well.

...guess pressing the accelerator may help in those instances huh?

Lol!

A few monthes ago I was at a stop light, and thought I heard a very load 911 engine. There were none to be seen, but it sounded like it might be hiding in front of the tan VW vanagon in front of me. The light changed, and I clearly heard the 911 get going in front of me, but I still couldn't see if it was in front of the van. That van must have been tailgating that poor 911, so rude.

At the next light, I notice the plate frame on the van is from S-Car-Go Racing, a nearby Porsche race shop. This thing also has rather large duel tailpipes for a VW, and fat rear tires! The light changed, I got onto the freeway onramp behind the tan van, watched it take off like a bat out of hell.

Later, I was relating this story to my mechanic, who's shop is just down the block from S Car Go. He knew the van and its owner, and yes, it had a very big bad 911 motor, among other things.

Cool story Jessa, I've seen that Vanagon before. Watch out if you ever see an old blue VW bus with the Cal-look treatment. It might be the FABCAR bus built by Dave Klym.....

Man I've got an old Class A Winnebago, anybody want to do a road test/comparison? I've got money budgeted for maintenence and upgrades for the '86 n/a this winter, maybe it will help me decide if I ought to hop up the Winnie instead. 'Bagocross in 2004...........
