The light changed, and I clearly heard the 911 get going in front of me, but I still couldn't see if it was in front of the van. That van must have been tailgating that poor 911, so rude.

At the next light, I notice the plate frame on the van is from S-Car-Go Racing, a nearby Porsche race shop. This thing also has rather large duel tailpipes for a VW, and fat rear tires! The light changed, I got onto the freeway onramp behind the tan van, watched it take off like a bat out of hell..
This van was in Excellence mag about 3 mos ago...

Ah, crap! Does that mean the snowbirds in the winnebegos are here already? The temperatures just got down to the 90s last week!
You need to find that winne and challenge him to a rematch.
Take a 1938 Porsche 110.

Hmm.. I've never really gotten dusted by anything slow before... well, there was the incident with the wheel barrel, but that dosen't really count..i am pretty sure the guy was running some type of MAF upgrades and the thing certainly wasn't street legal.

You know guys I am starting to think that Winne must have have a couple big AMAF turbo's in that thing. Heck that was probably the whine I heard!

Ahh who am I kidding... I got m a$$ handed to me by an old winnebago.

So is it the car or the driver?

Yep, these cars, including my Turbo, don't have a whole lotta torque. On the street I get blown away regularly by soccer moms. But once we are on the highway the table turns drastically. I don't even have to prove it , people give us, me and 951 ,... wide berth

i can't believe what i'm reading here! i've never been blown away by anything i've ever actually raced and i have just poor stock 8v'er. i've been beaten by a car length maybe, but never blown away. i think it's the driver and not the car.

A few months ago while driving my 80 hp Jetta, I kicked the snot out of a Mercedes turbo diesel! It was brutal. But then a mile later my clutch cable broke. I guess it couldn't handle the one-point-eight liters of fuel injected fury!

Beerburner,

If I remember correctly your Jetta has 105 horsepower - not 80. I remember my 1982 Rabbit however only did have 74 horsepower :-(

If it was a GLI, it'd have 105. However, it's only a GL.

I keep hoping that someday my engine will die and give me the excuse to update it. But no, 260k miles and still running. Effin' german engineering...

The biggest problem is the exhaust, which is quite possibly the worst system ever inflicted upon a car. I'll probably be replacing that soon, and then the engine will actually rev beyond 5k!
