ok, this is getting really frustrating. I called a red line dealer today and told him i needed 3 quarts of the MT-90 and i told him the age of my car and he said that its a high risk to put that in my car because redline is syntetic and it may cause a leak in the seals. PEOPLE I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!! What should i get?????????

I put synthetic in my transmission that has at least 100k on it without any problems. It's true that switching from regular to synthetic will exploit any weak seals, but I haven't heard of that being a problem with the transmissions, just with engines.

That's the first time I heard about a dealer pushing people *away* from his products...

I've been using MT-90 for about 2k miles and haven't noticed any problems. When I called Red Line tech support last year, they told me MT-90.

I posted an excerpt from the factory manual earlier in this thread. The capacity is 2.0 Liters - which should be a little over 2 quarts.

You'll have a little left over. Someone mentioned this earlier, make SURE you undo the fill plug FIRST (its the top one). If you open the drain plug and can't open the fill plug = trouble. Probably neither plug has been removed in 16 years, the fill is dry, where the drain is not, so the fill plug usually is tough to remove.

I used a long piece of hose with a funnel attached to fill the tranny. Just put the end of the hose in and fill until the fluid is just below the bottom of the fill hole.

I put Redline MT-90 in 10k miles ago, no leaks, much improved shifting. It has been said that full synthetics can provoke leaks in older seals, but I have not had that problem with the tranny. Now I wouldn't use full synthetic in the motor because I'd hate to chase oil leaks there. If you do develop a leak in the tranny, it shouldnt be too bad to fix.

If you drain the oil, and then can't open the fill plug, how are you going to get the new oil in?

Well, what happens if you open the drain plug and drain it out, then you can't get the fill plug off. I think you'd be in big trouble, with a gearbox without oil, right?
