I'll weigh in - I like the rear panels as long as they are the factory type, not the aftermarket ones with the goofy fonts. I think it does the same thing for the 944's fanny that the transverse light bar does for the 911, i.e., improves it, makes it look unitized. It's very dated looking, but that's OK by me. As bland as cars are getting these days a little 80's cheekiness, I can live with.

What about a compromise, a license plate bracket that contours around the plate and fills the sides of the recess with extra lights? Wish I was good with photoshop...
