So around January this year, I set out to buy a car I've wanted for a long time, a 944. It took me a long time to find a decent one as I wanted a good running semi project with maintenance history. All I kept finding locally in Dallas, TX area were mystery cars with no records or something overpriced.
End of June I was doing my regular Craiglist, Ebay hunt and ran across this girl in Alabama, for what seemed a ridiculous price for $2,600. She had 157k miles, but the seller stated that at 152k he replaced the Engine Front Seals, Water Pump, Timing Belt, Alternator Belt, Power Steering Belt, AC Tensioner, AC Mounting Bolts, and flushed the coolant. It seemed like a steal at that price so I was a little leery but I contacted him, and we talked a bit. It turns out he was a military guy who had owned it for almost three years but was trying to sell it quick as he was being stationed somewhere and couldn't bring the car. Also, he advised that the ac had been converted to R134a by a previous owner and back when he got the car between 127-130k an extensive amount of work was done as well. CV Axles Replaced, Output Flange Seals Replaced, Front + Rear Wheel Bearings, Blower Motor rewired, Head Gasket, Intake Manifold Gasket, Exhaust Gasket, Cam Tower Exhaust, Valve Seals, Starter and front struts replaced.
Well for that price I took a chance and had her shipped in from Alabama, where she arrived 7/1/16. When I got her in she ran fantastic for a 30-year-old car, the interior was excellent except for the seats, headliner, and the passenger power window didn't work. The body was a textbook definition of a 20 footer. She needs prob 2-3k of body work + paint to be perfect. The first thing I did when she came in was take her to a Porsche shop to have the oil changed, belt tensioned and the car reviewed. She came back with an A+ mechanically rating from them. So now I'm just driving her and slowly trying to make her look 1986 original. I've already spent about 8 Hours detailing the body and cleaning it up. Poking around it turns out the passenger window was just a faulty switch so I replaced all 3 and it works great. I've also replaced her seats, fixed the headliner and acquired the original cassette player to install.
