Default Car runs better day after long drives!?

This happened this morning. I took the car out last night for about half an hour, on the way to and from a restaurant (2-year anniversary dinner). Ran fine.

This morning, I headed out of the driveway, and the engine was smoother, and the car warmed up much easier! Less roughness, more engine wine (the good kind).

Could this be a result of last night's drive, clearing out the pipes??

Yep...

Every car I have (P-car or not) tends to run a little tight after sitting for a little while. Then runs much better the next day. Seems to get everything lubed and loosen-up. This applies to the engine as well as the suspension.

Yep, these cars like to be driven. Mine always takes a half hour or so to really wake up because of long term disuse. And they do love highways Born for road racing!

Yep, nothing new to add other than to say every Porsche I've owned has done better the more its driven. It hurts their feelings and saps their will to live to sit unused. The fuel system is especially vulnerable to the effects of stasis...Al

If you think it runs better after a long drive, try flogging it around the track for a day or two! The car runs sweeeet for a while after that! The harder you drive them, the more they like it.

After I did the head gasket on my car, I really started driving my car hard everywhere I went. I didn't abuse it, but I definately drove the car like it was built to be driven all summer long.

She ran great for me every day.

lol dave,

i prefer a regimen of constant spirited driving around town. i can't wait to see what she runs like at/after the DE in feb... i dont think it could get any better realistically! i think its time to take the airbox mod off though, back to non-ricer mode for awhile. i do love those intake resonations though

this reminds me, i need to head down there and change my acid... err... oil.

andy - just like they say, they run better if you use them... its just the facts of life.

This is why the engine of a car that was used mainly for highway work, and long distances will be in much better condition than a lower-miliage town run-abouts - it gives the engine/oil/gearbox a chance to warm up properly, many cold starts are the devil.

One of the things I definately love in these cars is that they take "beating" like it's nothing... during the summer I always got this feeling that something's not right with the car, but couldn't figure out what it was. So I went to drive on a track, hoping for whatever problems to present themselves... and nothing happened, ever! By the time I got back home, the car was running noticeably better than it did in the morning

James, too true. There's a guy at work who drives his 3-series HALF A MILE to work every day. The poor car's entire life consists of cold start, shut down, cold start....

The dumb thing is, when he comes to sell it, someone will pay a premium because it's 'a low mileage car'

My car, however, is driven how its maker intended: below 3000rpm until the oil's warm, then it's party time!

sami - i feel ya man, in the over 20k miles i've had my car, no problems but ball joints and stupid pulsating brakes. just like the little white, red, and green bottle says... DRIVE HARD.
