cv joints and mirrors please

The early mirrors are held to the mirror transmission with three banana clips coming off of the stamped metal frame the mirror sits in. These press into nylon bushings much the way the front hood crest presses in. I've never seen the defrosters in the early mirrors work. You can use the entire newer mirrors but there are some serious rewiring concerns to get them to work.
If you can just epoxy the glass back into the frame do it. Use a filled epoxy. I like the low temp black potting epoxy used on electronic parts.

Are the nuts on the rear stub axles tight? You might want to pull the bearings out and check them. Bet you find a bad outer roller bearing or two. If the nuts are loose then you most likely will have to replace the stub axle and the hub as the splines will be worn. They are not ment to move against each other.
When you replace the bearings also replace the two seals and large o-ring.

it comes and goes, which is what i dont understand. i used my own grease to do the passenger side today, so i could pack in as much as i wanted. the car only clunks and stuff under load like engine breaking or accelerating. for a while after i switched out the drivers side, the noise was gone. but it returns now and then. and i also mentioned the slack in my drivetrain: when the passenger axle was out, i was messing with the stub axle in the trans. it moves both in and out, and it twists foward/ backward. like slack in the drivetrain. bearings usually grind all the time with weight on them. mine doesnt.

There is a bolt through the center of the trans stub axle. Make sure it's tight.
The ring and pinion could be worn. Gives much the same sounds as bad bearings and will result in some dive train wrap up.
If you have been beating on the new clutch then you could have hammered the spings in the disk.
You really need to check the nuts on the stub axles. A loose one will be trouble.
