Default Value of a well kept 944 S2

Hello all, long time lurker, hoping to one day actually own a Porsche and be more active here!

I made a thread 5 years ago about getting serious about buying a 944. As internet forums tend to go you all gave me some great feedback and then I disappeared, oops!

Shortly after I made that thread this car came up for sale and I didn't buy it, like an idiot, trying to be responsible.
https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...he-944-s2.html

Ever since I have regretted not buying that car, and haven't found one that measured up to my expectations, then life happened and I had other priorities.

I know 911 prices have gone into the stratosphere, and that is starting to drag downmarket models that are in good condition up with them, but what really is a "survivor" all original semi decent milage (say under 75k) 944 S2 worth in 2016? So far this year I have seen them come up from around $20-30k and seeming to sell with a few people reaching and asking just crazy numbers and sitting. Of course I don't know what the final sales prices are. So I ask the 944 owners here now. What should I really expect to pay?

Also is it crazy to still want to buy a 944 S2 when a 987 Cayman can be had around the same number?

Thanks in advance

Jump in and buy one. You can always sell later.

$12k should get you a decent S2, under 100k.

Under 75k might be closer to $15k.

Thanks for the feedback.

I guess that brings up another good question. Other than on the classifieds here and Autotrader, any other places in particular I should be monitoring where one is more likely to pop up? I have heard of Bring a Trailer, but am not super familiar with it.

Nice, looks like they come up on there semi-frequently, I appreciate the lead.

I found mine on Craigslist. There's a way to use Google advanced search to look at all regional Craigslistings or you can use one of the several web front end search tools to do it. The list of completed auctions above is representative of what I paid not including shipping from the east coast to the SF Bay area (another $1500).
