Default 944t no start

Hi everybody. Ive been lurking on here awhile and learning a lot trying to get a barn find 87 944t up and running. Ive finally given up though and im here to ask for help.

This car sat for many years until i bought it a few months ago. Since i got it the following parts have been replaced: belts, water pump, battery, steering shaft, pads and rotors, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, coil, vacuum lines, bypass valve, coolant and oil flush, and theres probably more that i am forgetting.

It died on me and replacing the crankshaft sensors did the trick. Unfortunately its dead again after about a week and forty miles.

Things that dont work on the car: power steering, a/c, turn signals, fog lights.

Ive swapped the dme relay and tried jumpering it. I think maybe the female ends of the crankshaft sensor harness are bad and am ordering those next.

Car does everything but fire up. Any ideas and help are appreciated.
Thanks, matt

The car only needs 4 things to run: fuel, air, spark and compression. Verify/diagnose each one of those and you're bound to find the problem.

Out of curiosity, did you use factory or used sensors? Or aftermarket ones?

Battery fully charged? Check reference sensor connections. The connectors are known to fall apart due to age and heat.

Does the boost gauge on the dash for to 1 when you turn on the key? If not, the DME/KLR may not be getting power.

Does the tach bounce/twitch when you crank the starter? If not, then those connectors may be frayed as you suspect.

Does it have spark, fuel pressure, and tach bounce? If so, the fuel injection connectors may be frayed inside.

Does it sputter and backfire when you try to start? If so, the timing belt may be broken or not lined up.

Does it have gas?

You can see the timing belt through the little hole above the distributor cap so you should be able to tell if it's broken. Also, your fuel lines look old - replace them.

See if they will warrenty the crank sensors and swap them out. I had a brand new set fail after a few months. Its like Van said fuel and spark baby. Coil, wires, plugs, fuel pump, fuel filters, cap, rotor, dme relay, crank sensors, and dme ecu. Not much left after that.

If the sensors are working the tach will bounce around while cranking. I would also check the fuel pump and fuel filter. Pretty decent chance any crap left in the tank got flushed out after a little driving and gummed them up.
