Default Question about early vs late AOS and block port differences

At some point in mid 83, Porsche switched from a 20x5 O ring for the lower AOS seal to a 24x5 O ring. My question is, what changed to require the larger O ring? Did the port in the block get large? I was under the impression all AOS units were the same, so I'm leaning toward a difference in block casting?

edit: the block casting DID change in mid 83, the lower AOS port got larger and the AOS its self also got corrospondingly larger so it turns out early 83 AOS units are different from all the rest.
