Default Down a hole...help identify?

My quest to learn how to work on this car beyond the basics is being hampered by my fat-fingeredness. What is this hole?

I changed the ICV today (removed fuel rail but didn't have to remove intake manifold...yay!) and, as I was almost done reassembling, dropped a screwdriver tip down the hole circled in the photo below. It fell off when it shouldn't have, but such is life.

That hole sure doesn't look good. I have a magnetic retrieval tool but it's slightly too big to fit. I'm buying
this smaller one this smaller one
on Amazon, with my fingers crossed.

I've checked my haynes manual but it's for 8v cars, and no joy in the only S2 service manual I've found online (http://www.9ss1.dk/porsche944/garage/manuals/vol1a.pdf)

As said before, the alternator/AC bracket is a hollow casting. Nothing is there and doesn't lead anywhere to worry about.

Porsche designed in that hole to trap small parts and tools so that they don't go elsewhere on your engine or fall onto the roadway and cause damage to your suspension or cars behind you.

There are several located all around the engine, another common one is on top of the bell housing.

Wasn't Porsche so clever and thoughtful?

LOL
