Default Tricks for getting a baked-on cam tower gasket off?

On the 83 Blue that I am working on I'm working on the head and am having a heck of a time removing the old material. I'm pickup up some spray gasket remover to see if it will help. So far it's like it is glued on...original to the car.

Any tricks to coaxing this thing off?

Chris

i've found the spray gasket remover isn't very good at doing anything...maybe it's a CA formulation difference.

for super stuck gaskets, a fresh utility knife blade used carefully and at a shallow angle is good to scrape/pry them off.

I've had good luck with permatex gasket remover for removing stubborn adhesives/decals and what not... it would be my go to product in this case, but I must confess to not having tried it on the cam tower gasket. In the past I've used VERY patient application of a handful of new razor blades and scotchbrite pads for heads/cam towers & engine blocks

You need to get the old formula of gasket remover that isnt available anymore in the United States. I had to source a can from Canada. I used a can of that and about 20 razor blades.

Use a fresh razor blade to scratch it off until flat. If you need more removed, use a large bastard file with smooth, even strokes.

I use the Jürgen method with a flattened section of soft copper pipe. copper wont scratch the aluminum.
