Default Boost- setting up /944

Hi.
for the past 3 years I ran a 38mm Turbonetics deltagate wastegate, the boost was set up perfectly to hold 1.6 bar to the redline in 3rd 4th and 5th, sometimes a little overboost at top of 5th but I never held it there.

Anyway, unfortunately I got some air on a night drive and broke the wastegate housing when landing.
So I fitted a 38mm tial, I think it was a 10psi spring, anyway it blew open by 5000rpm to under 0.8.
So I got a 1.4 bar spring, better but still huge blow out at high rpm.

At this point I knew I had to hook up the other port (never did on the deltagate) - yep, no decrease at high rpm, but the difference in gears is huge, like 1.2 3rd gear, 1.5 4th gear, tooo much 5th gear.

I'm wondering if I put the soft spring back in with both ports used, is it likely to be more even through gears?
I really do not want to give in and get an EBC, it worked so well before as a mechanical set up, was a very fast car.

Oh no. no no no.

same time as I swapped the wastegate I also swapped the G31 gearbox for and S2 gearbox (massive job)
Im thinking the load per gear/different ratios may have affected the boost levels.
