Only the top pad can be replaced. I believe it's a 928 part.

hey Luis,

the whole tensioner is about £200 odd the pad is £1.20 ish,

I dont know how easy it is to replace just the pad without losening the camshafts ?

I seen the 2 bolts and the oil pipe, but its still a tight squeeze under the chain

ideas ?

Top pad from my old tensioner has the PN 928 105 509 01

No need to remove the camshafts to replace the pad, though I do think you should remover the tensioner to replace the pad. You are correct, there are only 2 bolts and the oil pipe to remove in order to get the tensioner out. You will need to compress the tensioner (press straight down on the pad) and then lock it inplace with a paperclip bent into a "U" shape. See the side of the tensioner for 2 small holes to insert the clip. Undo the bolts/pipe, remove, replace pad and then put it all back together. Be careful not to drop one of the small crush washers for the oil pipe down into your motor. Best to stuff some paper towels into the oils galleys to save you some grief later.

Good Luck,

Hey Adrian-

One other tip...Upon re-installation of the new pad and tensioner, place some motor oil on the pad and chain to pre-lubricate the system. You do not want to hear the sound of it starting dry before any oil gets to the pad...Made me cringe when I did it.

That's a great tip - I'm doing the whole tensioner today and I'll bet you just saved me 10,000kms or more wear on that brand new pad.

Thanks!
