Default Floor mat non-skid

Hey All,

My 84 still retains the original floor mats which are still in nice shape. The problem is they tend to slide around, mainly due to the sewn-in pins are long gone and I've tried several different styles of mat securing clips with poor results. Does anyone have experience with a product/material that can be applied to the backing thereby making the entire mat stick to the carpeting (obviously not permanently)? Thanks!

Patrick

do your mats have a "hard" rubber or plastic bottom?

you can get self-adhesive velcro hook pieces, which will grip the carpet.

V2: Tried that already... After some time, the adhesive from the velcro wears down. Maybe I could find large sheets of the velcro and cut a pattern that matches the mat and simply adhere it so the velcro grabs the carpeting.

What you want to do is find a way to secure the edge of the mat closet to the seat with some sort of a strap to or under the seat rails.

Look at Lloyds' mats, their mats have a tab sewn in under the mat that goes to a clip that fastens to the seat track. Works real well.

Thanks, I'll look into their website. I recently purchased new floor mats for my C Class and the entire mat backing had a type of foam that clings to the carpeting and works very well.

I wonder if you could glue one of those "office roll-around chair carpet protector things" to the bottom of your mats?

I'm wondering how everyone else is dealing with this...

I have Lloyd mats in my 944 that I got earlier this year, they don't have any grippy backing or retaining straps or anything.

They hardly move at all, every once in a while I have to pull the mat back towards the driver seat about 1/2" but that's it.

If your floor mats are anything like the PORSCHE ones that came with my car many hundreds of years ago, then I understand them sliding around and getting messed up.

V2,

So I decided into researching your suggestion and bought a thin, clear chair mat and cut a pattern to match the driver's side floor mat. I then sprayed some plastic/rubber adhesive and it's drying now. We'll see how this comes out.
