I just bought an 86 944 with no oil pressure. There is a receipt where a Porsche repair place had worked on it and told the owner the oil pump was bad, and he did not want the expense of repairing it so he dumped it. I am in the process of replacing the oil pump. I got one from a guy that was working fine and he said it came off of an 86, the number is 944 107 104. I have got to the point that I can read the number on the supposedly bad pump and it is 944 107 111. They appear from the outside to be the same, does anyone know what the difference might be???? I guess Monday I can find out, but I was planning on putting things back together tomorrow. Thanks

Checked the part no. in PET but all I could find was 944 107 014 09 or 944 107 014 11, I guess it could be a typo, but if it bolts on the same and looks the same chances are it'll work fine.

Being a gear style pump, they don't really go bad. I've never heard of one going bad either. Chances are that the pump collar was not tight enough. The collar has no keyway on it, it is only held by friction. If the crank pulley is undertightened, it will not drive the pump. Good Luck

I agree, it is probably not the oil pump, it can't be that simple. The pump I am replacing looks new. I'm not sure how tight the crank bolt was tightened but it sure took a lot of force to break it loose, I had to push with my leg to get it to break. I should have tried to torgue it more before taking everything off.
I am beginning to think the guy replaced the oil pump and that didn't fix it, then he got rid of it.

Make sure that little washer is in correctly ,sometimes they put them in backward and they don't tighten up. Next thing too look at is the pressure relief valve which might be hung up. As Andy said these pumps rarely go bad except for the seal in them.Maybe the guy tried putting in a new seal and when he put it back together he screwed up by putting that little washer in backwards.

Thanks.
Kevin, the oprv may be bad but I cranked the car with it out an no oil came out so I assume I had no pressure.
Does anyone know how many washers are on the crank and there location? This car had a small washer next to the oil pump, and then the big washer on the crank bolt and that was it.

Also could be the oil pickup tube too, maybe the sealing ring is allowing air into the system? most likely the big washer on the crank bolt, or the one between the back timing belt pulley and the oil pump sleeve. Also make sure the PS pulley is centered and not stopping at the front of the crank, it has to go back against the pulley to hold it. Good Luck
