Unhappy oprv

Ok I have the new oprv. The old one is out, they look just a tiny bit different. The new one seems longer by 3/8 of an inch. The old one doent have the o-ring on the end. It looks as if that part of the oprv is still in the engine? Any Ideas? The new one definitly doesnt fit in where the old one came out.

Did you buy the late model oprv or the replacement for the early cars? they're totally different.

What I asked for at a local reputable import only parts store was an oprv for an 86 944. Now, what do I have? If you have a PET and can look up a part # maybe we can see.

Your '86 should have had a 3-piece valve originally, and it sounds as though you've got a 1-piece in your hand. That's not a problem if it's the early *updated* 1-piece. If they've given you a late valve (all were 1-piece after 87, but a different diameter (not sure on the length) then it won't fit. Is it the same diameter (or a little smaller as this later one has the extra seal)? In which case things should be OK.

Is the one in the car now a 3 or a 1 piece?

Sorry, can't help with P/N, and I don't even think the early 1-piece was even listed in PET. Maybe someone has the later valve number to check against yours??

The '99 edition of the Parts & Technical Reference Catalog for models 934,944 and 928: 1977-1988 has a detalied technical bulletin (#3) discussing the differences and replacements. It is six pages long. I don't have a scanner or I would send it to you.

From the bulletin these are the replacement part numbers;

83-86 944, 944 turbo
1. Valve is 944 107 035 11
2. O-Ring is 944 107 935 11
3. Seal Ring is N 043 815 3

87+ 944, 944 turbo, 944S
1. Valve is 944 107 035 01
2. O-Ring is 944 107 935 01
3. Seal Ring is N 043 815 3

Let me know if you need anymore info from it.

Well what I have has the pn 944 107 035 11 BUT it is most definatly longer that what is in the car. It is the same diameter. What I pulled out does not have an o ring, what I have to replace it with does. Is the o ring in there still, as I dont think I saw one? Mike, does the "valve" terminate where the o ring starts?

I believe I have the same info that Mike above has, in the form of TSB's from ALLDATA.com. A wealth of information, these TSB's. Well worth getting.
You must have lost the o-ring in there somewhere? Clean it out the best you can, and drive on, I guess. AFAIK there should be an O-ring on every oprv.

Figure A is the 944 107 035 11 valve.
Fig. B is the 944 107 035 01 valve.
You should be using valve Fig. A as a replacement for your '86
The longer valve (fig. B) is replacement for '87 and newer.

Important Repair Hint:

If oprv is removed, always replace the aluminum sealing ring, and install a new O-ring. (see pn's in Mike's post)

Yep, that's it! Man Rennlist rules, become a memeber NOW! I saw Mike's post, called my friend Geo (from Rennlist) asked if he had that, he did, I drove there, looked at it, borrowed it, sure enough the part that I was sold is a 035 01 When I need an 035 11. You guys rule. The parts people would still be scratching their heads on Wednesday.

Now for the weird stuff. No O ring? Well now I have the part #

Thanks for the bump, but mine hasn't been updated to the 1-piece valve yet and the older 3 piece valves don't have the o-ring. Today I installed my cross member and the new motor mounts along with my freshly sanded oprv. Tomorrow I should be able to finish everything up and see if the oprv and/or the new pickup seal solved my problem. If the delayed oil pressure pressure still exists tomorrow, I guess that I will bite the bullet and buy the updated 1 piece valve. Kevin, where did you buy yours from?
