Lightbulb Cat : vs : no cat

Hi,

Eventhough my 1988 NA does not have a cat, I am posting this to see if the truth is out there. (spooky)

OK, so a friend of mine in England has a TVR Griffith 500.

Enough said on that issue.

However he has recently found a good way to gain extra horsepower from this beast of a car.

He has been sold exaust add in's that are used to replace the cat's.

Basically I have been told that it is illegal in the UK to go for an MOT
(Ministry of Transport yearly examination) without cat's if you car was produced with them.

BUT it then OK to take out the cat's and put in normal pipe to run around for the rest of the year !!

Think about how much BHP a cat takes from your car and figure out how easy it is to sort this power saving device for you guy's (and girls) with a cat fitted car...

Dont know if this will help anyone, but if it does then great.

Regards,

John

I dont know about the 944 cat since my 84' is born without. But HP figures is the same i think with or without the cat 163 BHP in europe.

But the 968 CAT is a special porsche high flow design, with a metal type catalyst material in a snail where the exhaus gas hit in a certain angle, to remove the NOx gasses,, but maintain High flow. A Normal car cat is a ceramic substrate with small holes in it where the exhaus gasses has to flow thorugh it, thus restricting flow and eating HP.

If the 944 cat is the same, there should be no powerloss due to the cat.

Default 924 cat

with my 81' 924 i felt a MAJOR difference by taking out the cat and putting on a glass pack in place of the muffler. this is my 600 dollar parts car and the muffler needed replaced but i wasnt gonna spend the money. basically its a really loud 924 but it does have more power. its an old beat up car, so its probaly just up to the factory HP now.

here's a big difference:

fix-it ticket, no fix it ticket....

I speak from experience

But it was fun running a straight pipe though!

no. its not THAT loud, stock 924 isnt a powerful enough engine to make real noise, when we put the 427 in the impala w/o any exhaust at all..nothing, no headers, flames shooting under the wheel wells...that was LOUD
