997
I had no idea the new 911 line up was coming so soon. For those of you who don't know yet, it will be the 997 series.
info:
i'm sure there have allready been a million threads about this but whatever... this car deserves another
info:
The 997 Carrera 2 is still getting its finishing touches and Porsche is already developing the Turbo. Incredible! The car sports a tail that people will remember from past 911s.
The 997 Turbo has an expected sales date towards the end of 2005 as part of a thoroughly revised 911 line-up. At its heart is a reworked version of the current cars twin-turbo 3.6-litre flat six with over 450 HP in standard trim - up by 30 HP from the current 911 Turbo. Exact technical details remain scarce, though Porsche is thought to have side-stepped direct injection - a technology it has already developed - in raising the turbo's output. Instead, the increase is said to come from a series of subtle enhancements to the ECU, coupled with further improvements to the VarioCam variable valve timing system and a moderate increase in boost pressure.
New transmission technology is also claimed to have played its part in pumping the torque rating of the new turbo. Along with a beefed up version of the existing 6-speed manual and a new 6-speed automatic, Porsche is developing the next-generation Turbo to accept an advanced double clutch gearbox similar to that offered by Audi on the TT V6 and pioneered by Porsche itself on the 956/962 sports racing cars of the '80s and '90s.
The new front-end look of the 911 Turbo, with a return to classic round headlamps, can be clearly seen in these pictures. The heavily disguised rear vertical air ducts for the engine and brakes will be replaced by more stylised units similar in shape to those found on the Porsche Carrera GT.

I hold faith that this one is HEAVILY disguised. That front? Those lights? That wing? Those scoops?
I wouldn't want to be the service person who has to clean all the dead birds and rodents out of those side pods!

As for the headlights, it's nice to see them round again. Something about the classic 911 froggy front that was missing since the 993 was discontinued...

Anyone know of any more rumors of the 987: the Boxster coupe? Latest I heard was they were going to come out with something late 2004/early 2005. 3.4 motor detuned so as not to bite into 996/997 sales.
A Boxster coupe would be most excellent to play with on the track!!!

What i think should totally be incorporated is the taillight strip! THATS WHAT IS MISSING!!!!!! The C4S looks sooo much better! Just connect the damn lights! Its one of the strong defining points on that wide rear in my opinion! Personally i think Porsche is planning big stuff for the 911. Hopefully people will stop complaining one day.

I'm thinking it's still very heavily disguised. I could see those headlights quickly becoming much more 993 like. I think the only reason they still have the 996 outline is so that either they could use the bodywork of a 996 or so they could disguise them better. I think if you look at just the round part, that's what you'll end up with.
I imagine those taillights will change more, although maybe not. I kinda like them as is, but I could also see it looking pretty good with that rear strip as mentioned before.
Am I the only one who thinks that rear wing looks like they just grabbed it off a 993TT?

From everything I've read the 997 is going to draw heavily on the looks of the 993. The current 996 while being a great performing car is just a little too bland in the looks department. In my opinion the 993 is hands down one of the best looking cars ever produced. If they can hit the 993 look they'll sell a bunch of them.

I wouldn't count on those cup wheels making it to final copy.. it is probably part of the disguise (as weve seen on earlier pics of the 997).
Same with the tail and the grill.. seems like a disguise. If you look under the grill in two of the pics you can see lights.
Looks like its going to be a pretty sexy car, much better than the 996.
