951 Pistons
I am rbuilding an 86 951...Installing new piston rings and have noticed that one piston does NOT have holes drilled in the oil ring groove. The rebuild is because of excessive smoking. All the other pistons have these holes (8) drilled in them. Are they suppose to be there ??? Ed

Ed, it would scare me. Obviously the holes are supposed to be there. Obviously you are going to rering the motor with the pistons in hand. Got to do the valve stem seals if any question and ck the guides at the same time.

Does it have a different part #? I it possibly just caked with burnt oil? Yeah. I'd be worried, Hmm, now I'll have to pay attention to my motor and the one I'm building for dad's 86 951.

I just modified the piston by machining oil return holes in the groove. Its all back together and running great. I could not find any records of the engine being torn down before so it must have been a defective piston from the begining. Ed
