There's a ton of 951 parts for sale a few hours away from a failed "can I turbo my NA?" project. It's almost too good of a deal to pass up... I may walk away from supercharging and build a turbo motor... Decisions, decisions...
Edit...someone snapped it all up already. Guess I'm supercharging it.
Finally got the crank woodruff key off, after several weeks of having no luck. Turns out the using a center punch on it, from all the sides, does the trick when you couple it with PB blaster. That allowed the oil pump to come off the crank... this one has a 1981 casting date. It's cleaning up nicely (so much f'ing varnish) and the cogs are in good shape, so the source of the metal chunks in the oil pan is still at large. Maybe the head? This oil pump also has some residue, presumably from factory sealant, along the rounded edge that contacts the thick oil pan gasket. I thought they only used this stuff on the corners...it's a pain to get off.

That is just amazing . I love clean parts to build with , guess I need to see if there is anyone fairly close to where I live that does this . All my past builds were just the old hot tank at the machine shop cleanings .
Trick is to call around and look for a machine shop that offers a cleaning technique that's compatible with aluminum and importantly, alusil bores. The lot of places will hot tank or bead blast which can ruin bores. The ultrasonic cleaning I got was $40 for the block and $40 for the rest, which is very reasonable IMO.
I picked this one up on ebay 3 or 4 years ago . it needed a front coupler , as most do . I have been trying to strip off the paint some genius sprayed it with along with the factory grey , that stuff is tough .
