Default How To transport car

Hey All,

I may be buying 2 cheap 944s from somewhere about 600 miles from me. I belive that UHaul is waay too much money and they wont let me take a 944 on their trailer. I'm thinking I should rent a trailer from them and attach it to either my 1992 Pomtaic Transport (It can do it, believe me ) or my 97 Ford Ranger. Would a 944 fit on the trailer? Can the Ranger tow it?

I know this is a newbie question, but the seller said the belts looked okay when he pulled hte timing cover- should I drive one up and trailer the other? I trust the seller too.

Thanks for all the help!

I towed a 944 on a 8' wide x 10' long trailer 550 miles with no problem.
Do 55 mph. trust me on that one. It will fit but the front end hangs precariously off of the rear of the trailer.
U haul will not rent you a tow dolly due to the low front end clearance- I tried.

Mike- you know better than to ask about belts.. If you have the receipt in hand of belt replacement and retensioning within the last year drive it. I donttrust old belts at all.

I don't know if your ranger has a towing package or not, but my 1991 nissan 4 cyl. without a towing package has a bumper that will only hold 2,000 lbs. Check inside the driver's door or on the tow bar to check the towing capacity.

944's fit on U-Haul trailers...

Why they don't allow it, I don't know. I told them I was pulling a chevy cavalier so they wouldn't get on my case.

Finding a low enough tow dolly is a real hassel where I live.

I towed mine on a U-Haul full trailer (see avatar), I had to tell them it was putting a Dodge Neon on the trailer. Don't think I would recomend the full trailer for the Ranger or Pontiac. Between the trailer and car there is a lot of tongue weight.
