Default Needed - Connecting Rod End Cap '86 944

I don't post often, but I read a lot on this forum. I have a question or two that hopefully many of you might know the answer to. I'm rebuilding an '86 944, non turbo, and have the bottom of the engine part. I bought the car on eBay, engine in the passenger seat, and everything was included...at least we thought.

I am missing a connecting rod end cap. We had a blown 928 engine (threw a rod through the block) that we thought we could snag one from, but they're not the same width so we trashed that idea.

Does anyone know where I could find a replacement? I do not have the cash to buy a complete piston set and am looking for just the cap if possible. Is anyone here parting out a car that would have an extra that isnt' damaged? Anyone know where I could buy one if I needed? Would a junkyard be my best chance?

Any leads would be great. Thanks.

I don't know if the rods in these cars are matched pairs - try looking for a new rod?

I believe they're matched to the rod. There should be a number stamped on the rod at the end where the cap meets it. The cap has the same number stamped on it. Look at you other ones. You'll need to find a set. I may have one. What car?

My experience in building engines was always to use matched sets. If you find one, it will ususally come with the rod. You'll have to send it back to the machine shop to change the wrist pin and make sure it's true. Furthermore, have them make sure the bearings you have purchased will still be good on the new rod assembly.

Sounds great. I've spent a few hours looking online at Porsche parts distributors but cannot find any who handle connecting rods, even the big-name sites. I've searched hundreds of websites with no luck. If anyone could help me in the search, either online or if they know any personal leads through friends or family, that would be great!

Would there be more luck in finding a parted out 944 to snag the set from? I'll contact my local junkyards to see what's available there, but I'm doubting they'll have anything.

Thanks! Still looking,

You will want to get at least that rod rebuilt. Big and little end. Also get it balance matched to the other rods, a good machine shop should be able to handle this.
