I have delt with a stolen car before. I talk to them at the most 20mins a week till I settled the deal. Its not like you are going to pull a 9-5 5 days a week.

UD - you dont have to take any offer they make. They might retract it, but they are likely to lose in arbitration (more likely than not) and therefore, holding out will likely net more money. However, you have to put it with it when there is a pretty good offer available. I did recommend he not take it but is better suited to make that decision than we are. No matter what the outcome of the poll, he probably already knows what he is going to do and is just looking for a little backing from a group.

well here is the reality check. before i put the money into the motor i would have been lucky to have gotten 10 if i disclosed it needed a head gasket. i did a lot of while i am in there work, and spent about 5500 on the motor work.

now if i take the ten i may have gotten in june add the 5500 i put into the motor i am losing about 500 because it was stolen. dont forget they add tax to their offer which in my case is 8.75% or 1225.

today they came in at 11 and i came in at 17 both ready to deal. take into account the hazards of litigation (i could go to a judge and end up with 10) the cost of litigation (start with $300 for a formal appraisal and hope the appraiser arrives at my number), etc. they basically have me by the shorties.

what kinda 944 can i get for 14k? there is an 89 951 near me with something like 30k miles and the asking price is 17500. http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/v...or=&cardist=34
plus i have another toy with about 300hp and a six speed, two sets of rims, etc. i think i am just gonna close the book on this porsche, and in a few days calculate exactly what it cost me to own a porsche for three years and compare that to what it would have cost me to lease a camry.

im tired! its been a long month and a half. now i can focus on my friend, and helping her with her husbands estate. kinda trivializes this stuff.

As I said earlier, if $14,000 is definitely in the vicinity, Id take it and move on. The courts are the last resort. You could wind up with $8,000 if you went through the court system as the judicial system has very little to do with fairness, impartiality, and whos right or wrong.

Youve already invested a ton of time into and your personal time has a vlaue (a significant one I hope). Burning more personal time on it is probably more expensive than any counteroffers forthcoming. At $30/hr which is pretty average for a joe blow professional, add up the hours youve put into it and multiply by 30. You get the idea. Nevermind attorneys charge 10-15 times that an hour.

I liken it to football. You never take points off the board. If you have $14,000 and the rest of fighting over nickels and dimes, swallow a little pride, give them the satisfaction, and pick up the check on Monday.

DAMN Do l like that !!!! HA! I have soo many detailed pictures of every inch of my car taken nearly monthly! I would be an insurance's nightmare! Hopefully it will never come to this.

Personally, i say take the 14,000. Its going to be a hard fight for more. Its your call as to how worth it that battle is. I would say take the 14k, buy a turbo for like 8k, strip it and mod it with the rest and go to track!

Its hard to forget what you have already put in, but i would say its time to just look ahead at what you can do now and what will bring you joy in the end.

I would take it with the stipulation that I get the first right of refusal to buy the car back if recovered before they auction it off. At least, you can try to buy it back at an auction even if they recover the car stripped.

Don't take their offer, they can always give more so I'd give a couple of weeks and try and work the price up.

There's no deadline for these things and if you can bring it up to 15k in a week that would be pretty well invested time.

Take the $14k! True, you invested more, etc, etc. Bottom line is you can get a nice S2 for that money! Or a Turbo, and still have money left to fix it.
Or, if you can live with your Camaro, take the money and run.
I would be looking for a low-miles S2 or Turbo to fix up, myself. Get a car like mine, with a good engine, and have $5k to spend on improvements, etc.
