I would have to drive an hour to find 'dark'.
Do not underestimate the chances that some of the components in your secondary ignition system are failing. You can not just look at them and tell if they're ok. You don't need absolute darkness to see voltage leakage either. I've done it in an open garage at night with the lights off. If the wires are 3-5 years old, or the coil ten years old, it's not a bad idea to replace them as an act of preventative maintenance.
