Default 944 steering shaft - same as the 924?

Kia Ora peeps, I have an '86 NA 944 with power steering, and the steering shaft universals are getting a bit tired. I'm just wondering if the shaft from a 924 will fit in?

part #12 on the diagram

TIA

Mike

No
924 shaft is about 2" longer than 944/924S power shaft.

Rennbay sells NEW power shafts.

Aren't the shafts the same, but only different between power and manual? The new shafts now available are listed as being for both 924s and 944s.

Note I differentiated between 924 vs 924S...
A 924S (1986?-1988) for this discussion is identical to the 944.

The 1976-1985 924 only had manual steering.
-- The 924 manual rack is totally different to the 944 manual rack.
-- The 924 intermediate shaft is over 2" longer than a 944/924S power intermediate shaft.
-- The 924 shaft is 1.25" longer than the 944 MANUAL intermediate shaft.

So, with that in mind, I could get an early 924 shaft, pull it apart, and get it cut and re-splined to work with the manual rack I have for a 944. That sounds better than cutting a PS shaft and adding a piece of pipe to it.

Anyone got a 924 shaft sitting around they could part with???

Yes, you could do that.
Yes, I have a 924 shaft...but I'd want you to take my 924 manual rack with it.
PM if interested...I'll make you a deal.
