Default Anyone w/ a dead DME ?

Anybody that has a dead DME sitting around, I'd like t hunt one down, all I really want from it is the (male) connector assembly that attaches to the wiring harness connector. Could actually use both 35- and 55-pin versions.

Just curious, are you trying to fabricate a signal break-out box, like the bosch uni-tester:

Yeah, I'm already done actually, just don't like having individual pins that I have to stick in the harness connectory. Time consuming, flimsy connection, invitation to hook it up wrong. Mine's not nearly as fancy as the Bosch, just a pin-out so I can look at signals w/ voltmeter or scope with everything connected.

Do you have a picture of what you've made?

Interesting.

I'm working on a visual display that will fill the empty speaker hole on the early 944's. Will show all of the critical DME imputs and outputs.

Also thinking of using it as a targeting system for the 25 mm cannon mounted under the car.

I thought of something similar, but very simple - both switched outputs of the dme relay, and 3 leds that could keep up with the speed/reference sensors, and the ground signal to the coil.

Not enough room under the car for such a devce. I found the perfect spot under the top of the fender on each side for dual miniguns with ammo feed where the windshield fluid resevoir goes We Californian drivers know the necessity of such devices on our cars.

Was going to aim the canon out the back. Sure don't want an exploding car in front of me at 80 mph!

Hmm, I like that idea (the display, not the cannon), maybe this winter. No picture, but as it stands, it's kinda messy, that's why I'm trying to get a connector. Basically just a black box with a bunch of terminal strips poking through the top, all the wiring is inside the box. Combined w/ a scope (and the ability to use one), it's a very effective way of diagnosing problems. Only downside is that once you find the problem, you no longer need the box, at least until the next one.

I think rather than the LEDs for the speed sensor, you'd be better off using an IC that converts frequency to voltage, then just put in a little voltmeter w/ a switch to go between the 3 signals.

Big E - do you have a DME pinout in electronic form? I have a schematic, but it would be easier (than making the list myself) if someone already had a concise list of pin # and function.

Thanks.

Yeah, I think I have that knocking around somewhere. Send me an e-mail to remind me, I'll dig it up (might not get to it this week, though). The best source is the workshop manuals, if you have them. They have the pinout, plus the specs for all the signals.
