I went with B&B as well, however, I am a little different than the ones above. Mine is a straight through carbon fiber muffler and 304 stainless pipes. The entire cat back weighs 9lbs.

I am very happy with the sound. I drive it every chance I get, and even on long trips, it's nice and smooth. It's a little raspy, not obnoxious, and with the windows up, about as loud as stock. But, if you put your right foot down, it screams and wails like you would not believe.

Take a listen. (oh, and the B&B CF will set you back about $1400... find a used one!)

It works.

Sound is just fine from the stock system, but a little restrictive for the turbo cars.

I'll be installing a GHL cat back with a Magnaflow muffler on my '86 $hitbox this weekend. I've got an SFR test pipe on order through Chris White. I'm really pleased with Tim's tig welding on my aluminum intake pipes. He does really clean work. I'm going to try to get some before and after video clips.

If any of you guys want to get a GHL or B&B system give Stephen or Roxanne @ Imagine Auto They are the highest volume GHL dealer, sale B&B too and a Rennlist sponsor to boot. You can't beatthat eh? 913-310-9927.

If SFR is what your heart desires, give a call to my man Chris White of
944 Enhancement. He is one of my 944 heros.

Something wrong with the titillating sounds the stock exhaust creates?
I love it.

When I first got my car I searched google for "Porsche 944 exhaust upgrade" . I got a load of websites on how to upgrade your VW's and Japanese cars to the 944s exhaust.

Stay stock. Sounds mint, works mint, and was meant to be there.

Im must say i cannot agree. After driving with an SFR, i have come to realize, THAT was meant to be there. The factory must have slipped. It was an honest mistake. The aircooled sound of the 11 always overshadowed it. The 944 should have left the factory with the SFR exhaust.

And by the way, Perry, your turbo noise makes me want to turbo my S2 really really bad! My daily is a turboed GTI slowly moving towards stage 1, and im slowly catching the turbo bug...but that sound of yours is amazing! Inspiring!

Perry - not bad, but not worth $1400 for sound dollars. With those dollars my suspension would be tight and some good beer on Friday! What could have made it better is if you had the K27 - no wine noticeable!

My recommendation stay stock with Catback.

Anyone try the Dansk?
I ask because I noticed it in the PerformanceProducts catalogue, and it's not that expensive. They have a good rep in the 911 world and I am wondering how these sound?

I have a flowmaster 40 series on mine. It doesn't sound as awesome as that catback clip i heard but it does sound pretty meaty. The sound between 2500-5000 is awesome though

Umm... David... there is a reason why I have 3" free flow exhaust. Here's my parts list for my motor: (Note the large K27)

Fully Rebuilt All Aluminum 2.5 Liter 4 Cylinder
'86 Block Converted to '87 Specifications
'86 Forged Rods
5 Angle Valve Grind
Cross Drilled, Balanced, Polished, and Nitrided Crank
Wide Fire Ring Head Gasket
74mm Hotwire Mass Air Flow Sensor W/Purocil Hoses
Stainless, Powdercoated Turbo Inlet W/K&N Cone
KKK K27/8 Hybrid Intercooled Turbocharger
2.5" Stainless, Powdercoated Hard Pipes W/Purocil Hoses
Bailey's Adjustable/Rebuildable Bypass Valve
Billet Adjustable Fuel Regulator
Summit Fuel Pressure Gauge w/AN Hose
55lb/hr Fuel Injectors
Split Second ARC-2 Fuel Controller
Custom Burn Technodyne K27 Chips
Braided Stainless Fuel and Vent Lines
100% Silicone Vac Lines
Deltagate Racegate Adjustable Wastegate
Turbonetics Manual Boost Controller
VDO Boost Gauge
Split Second ARM 1 Air/Fuel Meter W/EGO1 Sensor
Thermotec Wrapped and Sealed Headers, Crossover, and Downpipe
B&B Carbon Fiber Cat Back Exhaust
Random Technologies High Flow Catalytic Converter
Ice Shark Mil Spec Power Cable Kit

Sure, $1400 is steep for a cat back, however, you can change the baffling and packing to adjust backpressure and sound levels. They made a handful of them, and for a racer looking to cut weight (not me), it's a great option. I don't think the SFR stuff weighs 9lbs. I bought mine used for about 1/2 the cost of new.

There was a Rothmans Turbo Cup car with full 4" straight exhaust at the Family Reunion event a few weekends ago. When that baby got fired up and running, everyone thought it was awesome sounding. It had a crackle, you could hear the turbine whine, and it had that big 4 lope in the exhaust.

For the people that have personally heard my car, every one of them said mine sounded exactly the same, just a little lower, and a lot more subtle.

The factory stainless piping is ok on the 951, but the muffler itself is very restrictive. If you find an old one at a swap meet, buy it for $5, then go home and cut it open. You'll see what I mean by restrictive. That's ok for an NA, but for a turbo application, restriction adds more lag.

Hey has anyone checked out fabspeed.com lately? Take a look at their survey on the B&B mufflers and you'll be shocked at how you're getting swindled buying their exhaust. I heard someone a while back file a suit because he ordered a 3" exhaust on his vette and he got 3" piping with only a 2" diameter in and out muffler! can you say major restriction?

BTW: here is the link if anyone needs it http://www.fabspeed.com/993mufflers.html

Prepare to be shocked!

I have read that, pretty crazy. My pops has an '83 SC, and we ordered headers and the twin out exhaust from them about 8 years ago. We eventually cut up the muffler to take care of a resonance issue, and all looked fine in there. No hidden secrets.

That's not to say it does not happen. Luckily... I can take mine apart.

I'm sure there are still plenty surprises out there like those examples and some Porsche owners willing to give Billy Boat a piece of their mind.

Do like me and just get rid of it... or well... break the joint between the cat test pipe and the muffler and never fix it. It sounds AWESOME!
