Unhappy Dash Crack Prevention?

Just curious.. I know this is a common 944 Problem. I just noticed a small crack that has started in the middle of the dash. What, if anything can I do to prevent it from further spliting?

Thanks in advance

Leave car in garage and just talk about how great it is.

The basic rundown of the preventitive measures... keep the dash from direct sunlight for as much of the time as possible (garrage, carport, car cover, sun shade - your choice). Care for it with NON-Silicone based products (shame on you if you use Armor-all for anything!! that stuff is as close to going after your interior with a knife as you can get) ~ Vinylex (made by Lexol of the leather care fame) comes highly recomended but there are a few others out there.

Once you start getting cracks about the best you can do is stop them ASAP by drilling a small hole at the Very end of it (relieves the stress), and hope for the best. those with Massivly cracked dashes have tried a variety of different things - myself included, which are okay at making things look a little more camoflauged but there is no fix outside having the dash restored.

I did found an old thread.. thanks for the suggestion. It sounds like its
"replace it or face it. "

I want to try to drill it, but something in my head screams "NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" when I think of drilling a hole in my car... no matter how small it is.

It's my own darn fault too.. it stayed in the sun for a couple hours every morning this summer.. I moved, and my new apartment doesn't have a garage.. I have watched it form.. I feel helpless.

Ah, I have a dash cover...what matters is how she handles and how she feels to sit in!

Mine doesn't have them but I think she's been in a garage or under a cover her whole life.

There is a product called 303 that I think is pretty good. Doesn't leave a greasy film like Armor All.

Another vote for Vinylex.

I've researched various restoration methods. So far, there's no cheap easy fix (other than the dash cover, which is not really a fix.)

Why hasn't anyone suggested a fix for the root cause of dash cracks?

If dash cracks are caused by UV exposure then the windshield is to blame, not the dash. Sorry but I won't accept that a 944 dash is of inferior quality to japanese dashes which seem to take a beating and crack much less from what I've seen.

I can accept that the 944 windshield is a turd...it gets sand pits more easily than windshields on other cars and probably has POOR UV protection. How about going to a tint shop and getting a clear layer done on your windshield with UV protection?

No more dash cracks.

You need to have a layer of gold between the glass. Just a couple of molecules.

Use a sun shade if you have to park in the sun a lot.

the holy grail for 924/944 owners..... How to keep you dash crack free- or how to stop them cracks..

Windshield window shade, and leave the window open a tad. Heat is our enemy. all else fails.
