The idle drop is a bug in the early DME. You can get rid of it by switching to a late DME/AFM combo or any standalone engine management.

Another trick is to adjust the idle stop screw so the throttle never fully closes. You open the throttle by hand (engine off) and let it return. You will hear a 'click' from the TPS; that is its idle switch activating. You just adjust the stop screw so that click never happens. It will leave the throttle blade slightly ajar. Consequentially you'll have to turn down the idle speed using the big adjustment screw on the left side of the throttle body.

However my car sometimes had trouble starting when it was set up that way. YMMV

True, I forgot about that method. I did it for a while but had to set my idle very high for it to run well.

Chris, look for a SciVision MAF. They are very much plug and play. Installed one on my 944S and it made a significant difference in power and driveability.
