Default 944S Camshafts

Folks - rebuilding a 944S 16v motor . . . . what a mess.

Anyways. The gears on the camshafts are broken apart (found them plugging up the oil pickup!)

Does anyone have a source for new camshafts for these cars? OEM or slightly upgraded?

I believe the S2 head may be similar/the same and those cams might work? Looking at specs they seemed quite a bit more aggressive.

s2 intake cam is the same iirc, but the s2 exhaust cam is milder than the S
check with web cams, they may have some hot grind 16v cams on the shelf

Thanks for the info. So theoretically I could use "hot" aftermarket S2 cams?

I already spoke with Web - they regrind my existing cams, which aren't reusable.

Don't know if the heads are the same, but here is a whole S2 head for sale for a very good deal I think.

RSbarn can put new sprockets on your cams for around $650 i want to say.

Hot s2 cams would work, but the S exhaust cam is already a bit hotter than the S2's so it may not be a huge gain on that side. Don't be tempted by 968 cams, they have a different tooth count and will not work. Replace the cam pads while you have the cams out of the car.

944online.com offers a cam repair service and puts teeth back on cam sprockets.

The S cams are the most aggressive 16V cams. They're still available from Porsche, last I checked they were right around $1k each.
