Default Price check please

Im looking at a porsche very soon. Right now im really considering an 86 944 N/A, it needs new tires, new front shocks in 6 months or less, no service records so id have to do the timing belt etc. One accident, weel repaired, in excellent shape overall (I have pics of it).

Ive also found this one...

"PORSCHE 944 TURBO
90 PORSCHE 944 Turbo S, black on black, dual airbags, 968 spoiler, $10,000 in rcnt wrk, 209,000 kms, New: clutch, belts, water pump, steering rack, brks, valves & head gasket, heated sports seats, all records since new, excellent condition $20,900"

Now frankly $21000 (Canadian money ) is *WAY* outta my range. What would be a fair value for this car, or is $20k fair? If I can battle this one down to $12,000 then id get this over the N/A of course...

Anyone in vancouver been to see this one?

This one had been around for a while when I bought mine a year ago. Price at that time had ben falling steadily about $500/month; looks like it has dropped a bit more. I talked to the owner, but didn't connect as he didn't seem too anxious to sell at the time. I didn't check it out, but I seem to recall that Lance (K27) may have.

BTW, not all the 1990 951s had the full "Turbo S" performance equipment. They all had the M44/52 engine with the larger K26-8 turbo, but the M030 suspension, larger brakes, LSD etc. were options, and should show up in the option codes. The sport seats are a nice touch if your butt isn't too wide.

If that's M.W.'s car then a lot of the Vancouver guys on this board would know it (it is autocrossed quite successfully). It's a nice car, probably 8.5 exterior, 9.5 on interior and 9 (guessing) on mechanical. Double black with design 90's (I think they're the forged ones). Doubt you would be able to get it for $12K.

Would $14-15 be more the range?

Even with $10k in work, it prolly isnt worth near 21,000, since no one ever gets full return on invested work like that...

No, $200US and a flat of beer.... oh no wait, US "beer" sucks....

Yeah I figured $20,000+ was too much, even with new clutch, blah blah.

IMHO, it's worth more than $15K.

M.W.'s good friend (who currently campaigns a 964 Turbo) sold his red 88 or 89 Turbo for $27K. Now, the red Turbo was in concours condition and I believe won an autocross championship as well. M.W's car isn't as nice as the red 89 Turbo but it's much nicer than your average 951.

M.W. asked me last year what I thought about $22,000 asking price for his car and I said that was probably in the ballpark (without reviewing his service records or history of car).

Ultimately, it's worth what somebody else is willing to pay for it.

Hmmm I might have to pass on it then, I simply dont have that kinda money. Maybe if its still for sale in a year or year and a half

Can anyone suggest a decent price for an 86 944 N/A that has no service records, needs new tires NOW, new front shocks inside of 6 months, and had one smallish (I hope ) accident on the right rear corner?? Rich Sandor suggested around $7000, but I have no problems screwing a shady used car dealer that cant get his own info right

I've seen them from $2500 beater to $15,000 concours. Mint daily driver would be $9,000. OK daily driver would be $6,000 to $7,000.

Richie knows his stuff.

Good luck
