Default Differences In Brake Calipers 83 vs. 84+ (NA Brakes)

Hello,

What are the differences between these? I'm looking for a used pair of fronts to send out to PMB, but apparently 1983 was different somehow. I've looked at dozens of pics of these and can't spot what it might be, nor has searching this site gotten me anything more than an acknowledgement of a difference, but without details.

Thank you for your input!

Rick

I dont believe that is true....all 2.5 liter NA cars have the same brakes, regardless of year. Even the 944S has the same calipers. Only the turbo cars and the S2 got brembo brakes.

According to the parts lookup, there was a different caliper in 82 and 83 cars. The only parts that are listed differently are the caliper itself, the ventilation valve, the dust boot for the ventilation valve, and the retaining mechanism for the pads. The smaller pieces are all directly associated with the caliper, so I suspect you could just buy either caliper and everything would be fine.

Thank you konakat for clearing that up. I went ahead and ordered a set for a later year. If nothing else the hardware will be easier to source, even though it's just one spring on the inboard side that's truly different from the later year cars.
