Default 1985 Engine Sound Help Needed

So, the car that I bought from my son on Ebay arrived today. It is SO not as the previous owner described. It's not right on the outside or the inside. Here is a link to a video of the sound I posted about a couple of weeks ago. Can anyone help with what it might be? It starts up, will run (even though I have not driven it except to get it off the shipper's trailer), but makes a horrible, intermittent "metal" sound. Thoughts anyone?

Ick. It is too random to be rod knock. I would pull the timing covers first and look around. Not lifter tick or exhaust leak either. Might take some digging

Horrid. I've heard rod knock that sounds better. These cars are smooth and quiet when running right.

Pull the upper half belt cover and see that the cam and balance shaft belts are in place. Get working on a refund, too.

Does the sound go away when you rev it a little or put in the clutch? Do you have an idea of which part of the engine it's coming from?

Removed the upper and lower covers, cut off the balance shaft belt, and the link is a video of what the engine sounded like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpQR...ature=youtu.be

Here are a couple of pics of what things looked like. I'd love to know what your thoughts are as to what the problem is. Thanks everyone!

Prior to cutting the balance shaft belt, the sound would not go away. It was constant.

Perhaps the sound is the chunks of the BS belt being flung around inside the cover. Looks like a lot of the teeth are missing off the belt..

Well the tensioner in the second picture (center left) is camed out toward the housing and should be down toward the other roller. With that said I don't think that caused this but it is pushing the belt up too high toward the housing and water pump. I bet if you started spinning the upper balance sprocket, lower sprocket, or center sprocket one of them will no spin. No way a toothed belt can chunk like that without something being stationary in the system. What spooks me is it is t inside teeth which only touch the upper and lower sprockets as well as the one on the crank (and we know it has to be spinning )Looks like you have some leaks to attend to as well.

Could the noise be something random that fell into the infamous bell housing hole?
Those belts look terrifying..
