They have heats of 30 cars, so it's run, wait 20 minutes, run, wait 20 minutes, run, you're done. I like the lap style of the PCA or the six car heats of the defunct NASA autoX better.
Their events take eight hours or more for three to six runs (on Sunday they cancelled time onlys at the last minute, so I stayed five hours after my 2.5min of competition, waiting for time onlys, only to find out I could have left after running).
And now they just announced that their schedule posted since January is wrong, and their October, November, and December events will be on the same day as the PCA.
That is the reason you don't see many PCA cars in SCCA autocross in Az.

And I'm going to be one of them now. I just wish I hadn't dropped $70 on SCCA membership a month ago. I could put that money toward a battery tie down or harness bar.

Around here, if you want to drive your car without having to pay extra money for a dinner, or hotel, or wine tasting, you HAVE to run SCCA. Besideds, the competition is generally better (around here).

It appears that NC/SC/VA is a bit lucky, as our SCCA regions and the various independent clubs run fun, efficient events with enough structure to keep things fair but not so much stress that things aren't fun any more. Sorry that so many of you (particularly AZ) have poor regions.

Back on topic, here's the deal with wheels/tires (in the SCCA stock class world):
--Any stock wheel that could be ordered on your car from the _factory_ is OK
--Any alternate wheel that measures the same as above with the exception that 1/4" additional positive offset is OK.
--Any tire that fits on the stock wheels without modification and is available in several sizes in the spring (I forget exact dates) and is DOT certified is legal

Yes, it's sort of complicated...

If you stay in street class run Falken Azenis. An increditable AX tire that's about to be banned. A majority of stock class members in SD have excellent results with the Azenis. However, they are no longer a secret.

Good luck - nothing speaks louder than track time. Michael Schumacher didn't just jump into a Ferrari and start winning championships

PCA = track time. I don't run SCCA any longer due to the delays, long flag time and three laps you're out.

All PCA events give you a nice course and lots of run time=track time. For the money you can't beat it.

Who's banning the Azenis? I know that there have not been any proposals to that effect in the SCCA (nationally). Some local regions might be stressed about them, although I don't know why. The tires are cheap, available in a decent range of sizes, and (did I say this already?) cheap!

Azenis aren't available in 225/50/16 or 245/45/16! Those are the sizes I'd need for my 951.
But I have a set of 993C2 wheels on the way, which will become my street wheels, while my PDs get a set of Victoracer V700s, so I don't care about street tires.
I do like the Azenis, though. I have them on my acura, and they are so grippy, it's almost scary.
