Default proactively replace heater hoses?

I have my cam cover off of my car. Noticed that the heater supply and return hoses are now very accessible. Since I have the relatively easier access to them, should I go ahead an proactively replace them? (I have a '88, with only 64k miles). Thanks.

I would! I'd replace everything I could get my hands on and that my bank account would allow me to. The heater hoses, the heater valve, the reference sensors, simply anything that's in reach.

I would if you can afford it. Mileage doesn't matter as much as age in this case. Having a coolant hose burst will strand you at best and can lead to severe engine damage if you don't notice right away.

Pretty good write up on Clarks:

Several options for replacement including Bosch and FAE.

Definitely get that heater valve out of there. I had my intake manifold and fuel rail off the car for 3 weeks and right after I reassembled it my heater valve started to go! I really wish I had done it when it was accessible.

I got the all metal replacement HCV from an Audi 80 so that I don't have to deal with the plastic Porsche part only $5 instead of $45, as well. I would do it now.

Is there an all-metal substitute for the early cars (cable operated)?
